• Why we recommend: Babur is celebrating a huge milestone - its 40th birthday - with a gorgeous limited-edition menu of gourmet Indian food

Babur, one of the most acclaimed Indian restaurants in South London, is marking its 40th birthday with a stunning Ruby Jubilee tasting menu (available from the 18th July to the 14th September 2025). The five-course menu is a celebration of the Forest Hill restaurant's four impressive decades, with owner Emdad Rahman and his brilliant team (including Executive Chef Jiwan Lal, who is also marking 20 years at the restaurant), honouring the dishes and flavours that have made Babur such a staple since 1985.

Every course is a delight, from the pan-seared hake with roasted aubergine and red onion salsa and the black leg chicken breast with a shredded goat patty (my personal favourite - with a funny story behind it, too), although the slow-cooked tiger prawns in a rich coconut sauce is a show-stopper - served in an actual whole coconut.
